Prior To Thanksgiving One Morning I Noticed 4 Bumps Under
Prior to Thanksgiving one morning I noticed 4 bumps under my left eye that I had not noticed before. I noticed additional bumps on the left side of my nose and up between my eyebrow. The pattern and look made me think I had been bitten by some kind of insect. Several days later I noticed small red lesions on both cheeks giving the appearance of a rash or acne with no pimple. Since then I've noticed additional bumps on my right eye lid and the right side of the bridge of my nose. The bumps feel hard as if there is a small hard spherical substance inside. The bumps around my eyes are not painful and in some cases seem to have reduced in size or disappeared but for the most part they appear and feel as they did when I first noticed them. The skin lesions have periodically become irritated and inflamed until the skin surface breaks and a whitish puss is released resembling acne but appearing and feeling more like an infection. In some cases these lesions bleed minimally shortly after rupturing and they often feel tender or slightly irritated but only when I touch or massage them. The total of these ruptures has been 5 or 6 since discovery in November. For the most part there is no itching of the red lesions or the bumps under my eye. Very occasionally I notice a mild tingling sensation in my cheeks that seems to be associated with either the lesions or a number of small bumps that have formed on both cheeks in the same general area as the lesions. The bumps on my cheeks feel harder than normal skin tissue they do not have a core that is as pronounced as the initial bumps under and around my eyes. I've also more recently noticed 3 bumps midway up my forehead on both sides that feel as if they are actually under the surface rather than part of the skin. I also have a scar from an injury under my right eye incurred in 1991. Last year prior to the occurrence of the bumps I noted in the mirror that I could barely see this scar within the wrinkles under my eye. This scar is so inflamed and red right now that my primary physician asked me what it was during my appointment. It is hard for me to be certain but it appears to me like the bumps on my cheeks are less pronounced in the morning than they are in the evening before I go to bed.
For several months now I have been putting a bath towel on my pillow to avoid direct contact with the pillow. In examining my body I see no other lesions or similar bumps in any area other than my face. I have stopped using my normal shampoo and I've switched from Gillette Edge with some extra moisturizers that I normally don't use to Barbasol foam. I've used Edge or Barbasol for over 20 years with no ill affects. I've also cut peanuts and milk from my diet which I had been consuming on a daily basis. Since seeing my primary care physician in March I have been applying Metronidazol (0.75%) topically to my face twice a day. At this point since there has been minimal improvement I am seeking a Dermatologist appointment however I am not likely to get a scheduled appointment consistent with my healthcare plan until some time this fall. If there are any other possible preventative steps I could take to clear the lesions and facial bumps I'm more than willing to try them prior to my appointment with a Dermatologist.
