Saw My Pregnancy Doc Yesterday And He Said I Was

Saw my pregnancy doc yesterday and he said i was 3cm 50% effaced. 36 weeks and one day now. He said if I went into labor this week they would try to stop it. I have regular braxton hicks pretty frequently. At least ten in an hour or more where my tummy gets tight. Is this normal? Real?
