Should A Reconnection Surgery Be Done In Rectum Post Colostomy?

I fell in the shower and sat right down on an upright shampoo bottle ramming in my rectum, when I pulled the bottle out my rectum followed in shreds. Emergency surgery followed leaving me with an colostomy at the top of my descending colon. At the time of the incident the doctors told me things could PROBABLY be reconnected in six months. This was four months ago (the end of August); what are the chances that the shreds would grow together and not allow feces to leak into my abdominal cavity, or would I be better off leaving the colostomy in place (much as I hate it and the occasional stench which wafts there from) Also would the reconnection be considered voluntary surgery costing me a fortune
