Since Antihistamines Cause Drowsiness, Can I Take Them To Help

Since antihistamines cause drowsiness, can I take them to help me sleep? I have sleep apnea but, having tried a CPAP machine without much improvement, I'm looking for a useful but not habit-forming alternative. My physician suggested Provigil, but that's very, very expensive. Thanks. Hal Lieberman
