Sister Fell, The Pain Is On The Outside Of Her

Sister fell, the pain is on the outside of her leg, just below knee. Sharp jabbing pain - intermittent. So painful at times that it makes her cry. Saw doctor over a month ago (Tennessee) and they gave her anti inflammatory medicine. Took an x-ray - minor calcification. went back two weeks ago, no improvement, they gave her a steroid shot. no real improvement. seems like they are treating symptoms without diagnosis. suggestions on what it could be - actions she should take
