Sometimes In The Evenings While Resting With My Feet Up

Sometimes in the evenings while resting with my feet up I get very severe 'shocks' along my leg into my foot, this causes my leg to suddenly jerk and is very discomfiting. It jerks and then settles only to start again momentarily and can continue for up to 8 hours non stop. Pleases explain.
