Suggest A Remedy For A Mass Of Scar Tissues

My mom fell on a tiled fireplace and the result was a huge bruise. It cleared up nicely but she was left with a large "rod" shaped dent where she landed. There is also a hard mass, maybe scar tissue, directly beneath the dent. What can she do to fix it? Plastic surgery? Wait it out?
