Suggest Anticonvulsant To Prevent Headaches

I have been told by my doctor I only need to take my Epilim once a day (I am on it for a mood disorder and chronic headaches) I thought it only stayed in your system for 12 hours therefore I had to take it twice a day? Also is there another anticonvulsant I can take to prevent my headaches that does not cause weight gain?
