Suggest Cure For Infection Caused Due To Sutures

My grandmother had 28 stitches on her calf because of a very deep cut. It has been about 10 days.There is a yellowish layer on one end and on the other end where there was the biggest gap between the stitches is all black. I was just worried about infection is this normal.
