Suggest Medication For Cough Leading To Chest Pain

I have a non productive cough every maybe once or twice a day and no other issues. The coughing lasts for about twenty minutes and leaves my chest hurting. About two weeks ago I was choking and someone had to assist me from choking. Could this be related? Could I have ingested some food/liquid into my lungs?
