Suggest Medication For Severe Cut On The Index Finger

I had a sever cut on my index finger on the first knuckle on 5/16/11. I went to the emergency room due to how bad it was. They could not put stitches in it due to the location. The cut has finally healed together, but the wound is red and is still painful. Is this due to how bad the cut was or is this an infection?
