Suggest Remedies For Split Nails

I have a nail question...
I have 2 split nails, one due to being trapped in a car door 6 years ago, has a dent down the middle and is now starting to split..
the other has just happened, i misjudged when shaving my legs and caught the nail, causing it to split to the nailbed and it began to bleed...
i am really concerned and worried that they might catch on something and rip off the whole nail
please help
