Suggest Remedy For Bumps On Shin

My 5.5 yr old son woke up with a raised bump on his shin, size of a quarter. it's red and warm to touch. It appears that maybe he bumped it---there's a slight "knick" in the center. I gave him ibuprofin. I read that "Warm to Touch" means an infection. Should I take him in to the DR
