Suggest Remedy For Cold And Flu

I've been fighting a cdold and flu for two weeks. I've had a bad cough. My dr. gave me a Z Pack and I've been taking Mucinex DM. This has caused me to cough up "stuff" from the lungs. Today when I coughed there were threads of red in the matter I coughed up. What is the problem, please. My doctor is out to lunch. Should I go to emergency?
