Suggest Remedy For Discomfort In The Ears During Flight

Hi- I have flown in the past with a cold and had severe congestion in my ears, I was not able to pop them for 3 days. This happens every time I fly with a cold. I have a 2 flights I need to take on Friday and my ears are not well from my cold. I've tried all the suggestions, sprays, ear plugs, decongestants. Once I start decending I lose ability to pop ears including holding nose and blowing out. Do you have any other suggestions? Could I take steroids a couple of days before flight so my tubes are not as swollen?
