Suggest Remedy For Facial Scarring Of Bruise From A Fall

My son fell over last night and had a large red graze on his face. This morning it was brownish and yellow. I took him to phamasist today and they gave me Soothing, hydrating, healing gel, told me to keep applying, keep moist and covered up with bandage. Im most worried of scarring as it is on his face. Can you please let me know if this is ok and what will help so that his face will not scar.
