Suggest Remedy For Itching In The Legs

I had my right patella tendon repaired two weeks ago. They stapled me up, and put me in a cast. My question, is that right now, my leg felt a bit itchy, and in my hast I by accident touched the very top staple in my leg. I'm getting a bit paranoid now that I somehow can get it infected because I read it must stay untouched to be sterile. So what do you think?
