Suggest Remedy For Persistent Chesty Cough

Hello, I have a severe dry persistent chesty cough. I can't sleep as I cough as I drop off. This has been going on for about 4 weeks. It started with an ear infection, sore throat and cough & I had 2 courses of antibiotics which eased it a bit but has now come back with a vengeance. Was also prescribed Tilade for cough but doesn't seem to be doing anything. I'm so exhausted is there any point in going back to the doctor? Is there anything more that can be done? Many thanks, Sarah
