Suggest Remedy For Problem In Remembering Small Things

My name is Angie , i`m having alot of problems remembering things . I am 49 yrs old , and live alone now my 3 children are all married . I was married for 18 yrs , lost my best friend the same month my divorced was finalized and then one month later my 3 yr old neice passed away from a automobile accident ,. This all happened in 2009 and since then my memory hasn`t been the same. I remember things that happened in the past, but if i read something i can`t remember everything i have read. I talked to my doctor and he said people forget things all the time. But its scaring me now , because when you walk out of a store and cant remember where you parked , i panic. I`m a Teacher and since i have been teaching for 15 yrs i know what i am doing . But i have to keep my education updated and i can`t pass the tests i have to take . Please help me.
