Suggest Remedy For Severe Cough

I have been suffering from a severe cough for the past couple of weeks. It is now going away. But the only way to sleep through the night would be to fall asleep with a cough drop in my mouth. Now, I have severe white spots (geographical tongue????). Could this be caused by the prolonged cough drop usage?
