Suggest Remedy For Sore And Swollen Nostrils

my son has a sore inside his right nostril...it is red swollen and very sore. His pediatrician said it may be infected and gave us a cream called altabax. He has been using it for two days twice a day and no improvement...are there any other suggestions as to what this may be and how to get rid of it?
