Suggest Remedy For Wax Compaction In The Ear

i need help. my left ear is almost fully recovered from an outer ear infection, but last night my RIGHT ear started hurting out of nowhere. when i got the medication for my LEFT ear, the doctor also looked into the right one and said there was no infection, but a little wax compaction. I tried a wax removal aid from the drugstore but no luck. I just can't tell whether or not it's the infection or just wax. Can someone help me?
