Suggest Remedy Pain Due To Rib Injury

hi um ive had a rib injury since september '09 and we've (my family and i) thought it was muscles tears and sprains along with torn cardilage (sorry probably spelled that wrong) but i went to a pain specialist yesterday and he thinks i messed up my nerves in that area and that i should get a cordisone shot in my back where the nerves attach to my spine but since we dont no for sure what it really is and i love to be active in sports and i dont want to reinjure myself, do you think that getting the shot is a good idea? i think we need a second oppinion and my parents seem open to that but my mom is pushing me toword the shot it feels like and i just want to know more....
