Suggest Treatment For Allergic Cough

I had an allergy attack, with lots of drainage. That has been stopped with steroid treatments. Now I have a lingering cough, that hits randomly. It s like a spasm, and it is usually very shallow for several cycles, then finally a deep complete cough. Sometimes there is mucus extracted, but sometimes nothing. Any advice on what this is, or how I can get some sleep?
