Suggest Treatment For Back Injury

I hurt my back the other day shoveling - I saw my orthopedic and he gave me tramadol and metaxalone - I read that it may be bad to take the pain reliever with the muscle relaxer, but I had already been taking them together since yesterday. Is this ok or do I need to separate when I take them?
