Suggest Treatment For Back Pain Radiating Towards Chest After Injury

Last week I hit my rib cage hard on a cabinet. I have have curvature of the spin and figured that my back would hurt as a result. The next few nights I had a hard time moving in bed. Then we painted a couple of walls. I was careful not to lift or twist (taking care of my back). By the end of the day I was in serious pain and the pain spread all the way around to the front of my chest. It got worse when I went to bed. I has become increasing hard to breath and this evening I have started to cough. Is this typical? I have read that rib damage just need pain management and rest. Should I be concerned that the pain is getting worse?
