Suggest Treatment For Blocked Bartholin Glands

I have been told by a gynecologist that both my bartholin glands are blocked (on about 3cm and the other 2cm) and that I have to have a procedure to have them unblocked ("cut"). I have had this problem before many years are go, but this time they are not painful, hardly noticeable. Should I have the procedure as a matter of urgency or is there something I can do myself?
