Suggest Treatment For Blue And Black Bruise With Heart Problem

Hello my name is Wendy I have a medical question about my father. He was recently diagnosed with a heart condition about 3 weeks ago so the doc has put him on a high dose of aspirin. He was doing some yard work yesterday and he got stabbed by a thorn from a Bodock Tree. We cleaned the area and put a band aid on it. The area is now blue and purple like a bad bruise. Is it something that we should go to his regular MD for, how urgent is it?
