Suggest Treatment For Breathlessness And Severe Cough

My wife is experiencing shortness of breath with very little physical activity. She has had a rough cough for a number of years. She had that checked out some years ago. The doctor could not find the reason. I notice she coughs more frequently when lying down at bed time. Within the last month she is having shortness of breath plus a feeling that the cough is stronger. We are having a long period of cold weather hear in Connecticut. She does have high blood pressure and does take the medicine prescribed but not as much as she should. We are missing sunshine due to the weather with so much snow.
