Suggest Treatment For Colitis

I have been suffering with loose stools like pouring water out of a hose for 15 years. I had a test ran 3 weeks ago and he told me today that the colitis has now moved into my colon. He suggest that I have my colon removed. I am only 53 and I am not married but I hope to one day. Is there another way to treat this?
