Suggest Treatment For Congestion And Burning Sensation In The Chest

I've had bad congestion for the past couple of days and a painful burning in my chest whenever I cough or sneeze. The coughing is pretty rough and some mucous comes up usually green or clear. And this morning I noticed a white spot like a nodule on my soft palate that looks like a canker sore. That is what concerns me. I believe it's probably just a bad cold since I don't have a fever or aches so is the white spot normal or maybe an irritation from the congestion?
