Suggest Treatment For Detachment Of Knee While Walking

My husband has had trouble walking for the past 5 years with each year getting worse. His left leg is worse than his right. His legs feel weak; he shuffles his feet and tonight had the third strange muscle pain that woke him from his sleep. When he walks it appears that his left leg bounces back from behind his knee. This happens with every step.
