Suggest Treatment For External Ear Pain

i have pain in my external ear, between the tragus and antitragus - i just saw my family MD and he found no signs of problems in the ear whatsoever. But I continue to have pain, especially if I touch the area. This is a problem because I'm a nursing student and need to use a stethoscope. what could it be?
