Suggest Treatment For Eye Infection

i have an eye infection. I can't figure out if it is viral or bacterial. I woke up with it crusted shut but for the rest of the day there is no significant discharge. The eye is red and feels dry but isn't itchy. Should I treat it with bacterial eye drops just in case?
