Suggest Treatment For Fever, Lethargy And Consumption Of Excess Salt

I have a three year old that I take care of who is running a 101.3 fever, is lethargic, and wants to eat more salt than normal and drink more water. While I understand that by in-taking salt one would want to drink more water, but why salt is what I can not figure out.
