Suggest Treatment For Foul Smelling Cut Area After Injury

I got in an accident playing football and ended up with 4 staples in my head. It's been about four days and when i cleaned my cut today (1/2 peroxide 1/2 water) the towel and q-tips i used smelled less than normal. I'm nervous that it might be infected. The color seems normal compared to other cuts I've had. But at the same time I have a smelly head and have been washig it with smecial shampoo but cant now since I have this cut. Is it more likely that I have an infection or could it just be because I can't wash that area of my head?
