Suggest Treatment For Genital Warts On Penile Shaft

just recently found out i have genetal warts on my penile shaft, dr frove the couple big ones that were bothering me..asked about having sex said sex was fine after healed and is tollerible.i knew nothing about it being contagious or being a form of hpv.. being mt dr shouldnt that of been something he should of told me so i dont pass it on to my gf? that and they have came back and are worse, what should i do?
