Suggest Treatment For Headache And Double Vision In Children

My 8 year daughter is suddenly complaining of headaches and experiencing exotropia with some double vision whenever she looks up, which she's never had before. There is no family history of exotropia or lazy eye, and she hasn't been injured. Her optometrist said that her vision is still 20/20, told us to patch the "good" eye for 1 hr a day and is sending us for an MRI on Friday. He didn't really explain why or what they might be looking for. After reading online, I am terrified. Does all of this sound normal? Is there anything else that we can do to help her eye(cut out electronics and TV, limit her reading, etc)?
