Suggest Treatment For Heart Palpitations And Shortness Of Breath

For the past 5 days I have noticed random increases in heart rate for about 5 seconds duration. It happens randomly when I am awake. When it speeds up, my breathing becomes harder and slower like I am at a high altitude. Could this be due to lack of diet and exercise or am I experiencing something completely serious.
