Suggest Treatment For Hematoma And Bleeding After Tonsillectomy

my son had a tonsillectomy 6 days ago, he is 21 years old...there is a hemotoma at the site....we are waiting on his doctor to return our call...he woke up bleeding a little, but it had stopped. He is very uncomfortable, has not eaten and is afraid to....should I be concerned and take him into an ER?
