Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi Dr Setty I am writing to you about my husbands medical problem. For over a year now he has been suffering from pain in his hips and legs. It is getting unbearable. He has been to a vascular surgeon and had MRI done. It has been discovered that he has blockages in his legs, however the vascular surgeon advised that an angioplasty cannot be done as there are 4 blockages close together in one of his legs. He told my husband to stay active and to come back in 6 months unless it gets worse! My husband called his family doctor for advice as he cannot live with this pain for 6 months. His family Dr received the reports from the vascular surgeon and he said that surgery would be required and that one of his legs was alsmost completely blocked however the blockage is up in his abdomen. His family Dr cannot understand why the vascular surgeon told him to come back in 6 months so has referred my husband to another vascular surgeon for second opinion. We are again waiting for an appointment. My questions are 1. The longer this is taking, what is the damger? could he possible have a stroke or heartattack while waiting for the surgery? 2. If the blockage is up in his abdomen....is this a dangerous operation? Could something go wrong? I am so stressed and worried about all this because this whold process is taking so long. My husband is a smoker (but knows he must quit) He is 56 years old with a slim build. His medications are PLAVIX, CRESTOR, and NADALOL (he has Wolfe Parkinson White disease and has had this since a teenager) Your expert advise is greatly appreciated and I thank you
