Suggest Treatment For Hypertrophic Scar

I had a hypertrophic scar due to self harm, I was too embaressed to go to the doctors and so I decided to cut it off myself and use superglue and steristrips to seal it over I used antiseptic etc. what's the best way of dealing with it now... Was it stupid and will it just go back to a hypertrophic scar?
