Suggest Treatment For Ingrown And Infected Toe Nail

My left big toenail is very badly ingrown and infected. My local doctor recommended that I soak it in salt water for 15 minutes and then cover it in POTUS paste, which is supposed to control the infection. My mother, however, is very worried that it may be infected to the bone and that I should get antibiotics for the infection. What do you think I should do?
