Suggest Treatment For Irritable Bowel Syndrome

My son is having anxiety issues which is resulting in an irritable bowel. He was prescribed imipramine. This does not appear to be an anxiety medication but rather an antidepressant. The doctor felt it would help his irritable bowel and it has not. Is there something that you would recommend instead of this or do you feel this is the correct course of treatment?
