Suggest Treatment For Itchy Rash In Face

An itchy rash on my face, started first thing Monday morning. Has spread from left to right side, across chin, moving up cheeks. Affected areas are red and rough/toughened. Even lips are roughened. Doctor said contact dermatitis, use cortisone cream. Used it 3-4 times yesterday, didn't itch much today so didn't use it. Just applied some because of renewed itch, and it's worse--itching and burning as a result of the ointment. No new substances, fragrances, soaps etc. Thoughts? Will this inflamation/roughening go away? What about relief for the itching?
