Suggest Treatment For Lower Back Pain

My husband has arthritis in his lower back, diagnosed by an MRI. He is always in a lot of pain. He sits on the floor to stretch the the lower back, and he says his back feels better after a few minutes of sitting on the floor against the call, however, his feet go numb. Any idea why? Any thoughts on how to control the lower back pain?
