Suggest Treatment For Pain In Hip Due To Bruise On Buttock

My step-daughter called my husband today and said she woke up during the night Wednesday night with pain in her "hip." We went over to see her today and she showed me a dent in her right buttock about the size of an egg. It appeared to be dark and purplish, but was not a bruise with the usual yellowing and discoloration. This was a continuous purple-black like color. No variegation. She said the pain was like her "hip was on fire and trying to pop out of her skin." She went to the emergency room and they took an x-ray, but found nothing. She is in a lot of pain and can't seem to find an answer. She was given an orthopedist number on Friday afternoon, but that does nothing for the pain now. Any ideas? Heat and ice have been tried - no effect whatsoever.
