Suggest Treatment For Painful Hard Lump On Tongue

I have a hard lump inside my tongue near the tip and its painful and cringing me out alot, it feels like a spot that you can get inside the skin that grows to be a spot within a few days but i have never had one in my tongue before. What may this be? I have recently quit smoking, have a viral cold have just come back from Europe when I live in England, thought that these might be contributing factors
