Suggest Treatment For Painful Rowing Lump On Testicles

Today, I talked to my son, 34 years old, he said that about 3 months ago he found a little lump in his testicle and now is growing and is painful, he had a check up with a doctor and doctor said that does not look like a tumor but it is infected and prescribed antibiotics for 10 days. My question is: does he needs surgery and is painful? he is worried of course because he has to work and travel next week.
