Suggest Treatment For Pincer Nail?

Hi I was just told i have a pincer nail on my thumb finger. the doctor wants to remove the nail and surgically cut the nail bed and place cadaver bolsters under the nail bed. Have you heard of this and is ther a less invasive procedure? I have had infections and have been having a podiatrist treat my fingernail & cut it down and pack it for the last 3 months already. I am 49 year old woman,5'3", 135 lbs and healthy
